I started designing web sites in 2000 and like many at the time used HTML tables to control the layout of page elements, although I used cascading style sheets (CSS) to control the typography. From 2006 I began to use the full power of CSS to control layout and separate the style of a page from its content. I have also used PHP and MySQL to dynamically create pages from content stored in a database. I use BBEdit to create and edit my pages, and more recently have begun coding pages to the stricter XHTML 1.0 transitional standard. This appears to have the added benefit of forcing IE to render pages properly, especially floated elements. My browser of choice is Safari on a Mac, but Firefox is very consistent on all platforms.
